Orchestra with quarter century history


The orchestra of the Primary Music school in Povazska Bystrica was founded in school year 1976/77. The goal was to provide opportunities for the best pupils of the brass section to develop their individual ability through orchestral playing. Support of the school management, patient and meaningful work from the very beginning formed present achievements.
Among first teachers who helped to members of the orchestra to improve their command of the instrument were Anton Magyari, Jozef Baros, Pavol Hulec, Juraj Bombala, Karol Celko, Milan Mercinery, Milan Nemec, Rudolf Pagac, Stanislav Kardos, Peter Lehotsky, Gustav Ulicky and Peter Zimen.

Artistic quality of the orchestra has increased after arrival of qualified educationalists: Anna Mikusova, Mgr. Jan Figura, Pavol Baska, Igor Steiner, Marian Belobrad, Katarina Michaliskova-Hrtankova, Martin Brhlik, Monika Broskova, Veronika Makova and after reconstruction of the concert school hall.

Convenience of our way was confirmed by new year concerts, festivals ( Zilina, Martin, Dolna Krupa, Trencin), competitions ( Svit, Lednicke Rovne, Nove Mesto nad Vahom ), promenade concerts (Bardejov, Trencianske Teplice), trip to Poland.
Modern brass orchestra can interpret compositions of different genres, classical music, compositions influenced by jazz, compositions of the present authors and can attract young people. That’s why, music interpreted by brass orchestras has achieved a great growth in the western Europe and the USA. At present performances of our orchestra are multiplied by suitable choice of compositions, instrument soloists’ and singers’ of individual qualities ( graduates of conservatories and music universities) and collaboration with MELODIA choir.
Our ambitions is to warm up the hearts of the audience with good music, develop talent of pupils - musicians and singers and fulfil expectations of our audience.
